Meet the Team: Celebrating the Season
Do you have a special holiday tradition?
Every other year we go away to somewhere warm. I’m looking forward to, hopefully, doing a road trip down to Palm Beach to catch some warm water and sunshine, which always makes this time of year more enjoyable.
My family is from rural PA, so the Friday after Thanksgiving we usually all pile into my dad’s truck and go pick out/cut down a Christmas tree at a local farm.
Each year my parents and I visit a small town to do some present shopping, learn about the area’s history, and just enjoy the holiday charm. Walking around those cute little communities that are always decorated so nicely really gets me in the holiday spirit.
We really like to bundle up and walk around our neighborhood to look at the houses decorated with lights. My children are very young, so I am hoping to keep adding fun traditions for them.
Any decor things you do to switch things up for the winter or holidays?
In the past, I was so overscheduled that I had little time for holiday decorating. But this year, I’m going to do some early decorating with beeswax candles and vintage candlesticks, eucalyptus garlands, and wooden bead garlands (check out the DIY tutorial here).
I have a cluster of cat/human portraits hanging over the tv in my living room, and I always tape paper Santa hats onto the glass over their heads so they look dressed for the season.
I heavily decorate for Halloween, so by the time I get all that stuff put away I’m less motivated to decorate a lot for Christmas haha. But I do usually hang a few strings of lights and put up a tiny tree that my cat spends the next month knocking over every chance he gets.
I have a few special decorations that have been passed down from my parents and in-laws that I like to put out. I also add a few new things each year. I know I loved my mom’s holiday decorations as a kid, and I want my kids to feel that same excitement.
Favorite winter food or drink? Or anything special you make for the holidays?
My favorite holiday cookies are Butter Balls from my childhood neighbor’s grandmother’s recipe. But EVERY New Years Eve I make “Dale’s Dip,” which is a very strange but delicious circa-1980s party dip. I refuse to tell people the ingredients before they taste it, because it sounds unappetizing.
I could LIVE on green bean casserole and my mom’s artichoke cheese dip.
I love all the typical holiday food—turkey, stuffing, cranberries, pies, everything!
Favorite song for this time of year?
My favorite holiday albums are It’s a Holiday Soul Party by Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings and A Very Kacey Christmas by Kacey Musgraves. Guilty pleasure album from my childhood that I’ll never get tired of? Snowed In by Hanson!
Printfresh item you're definitely gifting to someone special this year?
One of my closest friends is obsessed with pajama sets so she’ll definitely be getting some Printfresh pjs, I just have to decide which print! (Isn’t that always the hard part?)
