Home Chef: From Sketch to Stitch + Holiday Baking Tips
What inspired the Home Chef embroidery?
I really enjoy baking with my oldest child. We love to make muffins, and anything with apples! So I wanted to create an embroidery that had some of our most commonly used kitchen items, depicted in a whimsical and cute way that could pay homage to this hobby. The holiday season was the perfect time to release Home Chef since so many people are spending a lot of time in the kitchen during the season. It makes for a thoughtful gift for the chef in your life!
For our embroidered pajamas, I always start by doing a line drawing, followed by drawing it in stitches, and then I embroider the motifs to work on the color and layering of linework - which makes it easy to then digitize and send off to our factory partner.
How does the factory create the embroidery?
The factory takes what I have designed by hand, and uses special machines that can recreate the hand embroidery style. It’s very quick and efficient, and the stitching is more consistent than hand embroidery would be. Finally, the threads that travel from motif to motif are carefully clipped to finish the fabric yardage.
What’s your favorite recipe to bake during the holidays? Any baking tips?
We always love to make crumbles when we are having friends over - I think an apple, pear and cranberry crisp is always tasty for this time of year!
Measure carefully! Baking tends to turn out best when the recipe is followed carefully (much to the chagrin of my youngest!). I like to have some recipes that I know are fan-favorites and straight forward, and experiment with the new ones in low pressure settings since baking is so scientific. It’s hard to know how something will turn out until you really understand how to combine the ingredients and the cook time in your oven!
How do you set the scene for baking?
My oldest and I love to listen to classic rock and jam out. I also love to wear a Printfresh apron to stay clean and add some pattern into the mix. Having tea towels handy also helps for a cleanup - I love this year’s pack of 3 which are perfect for keeping things bright and cheery in the kitchen.
