Behind the Print: Hit the Slopes
Explore the heartwarming inspiration behind our delightful 'Hit the Slopes' print, a pattern perfectly showcasing our beloved Bagheera the leopard in an enchanting Alpine setting. As winter enthusiasts ourselves, print designer Christiane and I wanted to bring our snowy childhood memories to life, featuring Bagheera skiing alongside playful tigers and cheetahs. Influenced by the nostalgic tales of our past, the colorful retro ski gear donned by our big cats, and discover the perfect flannel pajama colors to make your winter nights magical.
What inspired ‘Hit the Slopes’
We all adore our Bagheera print, and love seeing her do fun things and really come to life. So we thought it would be cute & creative if she ‘Hit the Slopes.' If you look closely, you’ll also see some tigers and cheetahs alongside our favorite leopard. Our print designer Christiane and I both grew up in ski towns and were avid skiiers. She then painted a really amazing hillside with adorable little trees giving it a pop of color.
Growing up in ski towns
I’ve done some skiing, but I’m actually much more of a snowboarder (in my teen years I thought it was very cool). I practically lived at the resort growing up during the season, trying to make the most out of every moment in the snow that I could.
Christiane was actually a competitive skier as a child! Her parents both worked at a local slope in Central PA when she was growing up, so she learned how to ski when she was just three and even participated in racing competitions. These days, Christiane is more of an indoor cat who prefers cuddling up next to a fire and with a mug of hot cocoa when it’s snowing. And I can’t blame her, that sounds lovely!
What inspired the retro ski gear on the big cats?
I thought the cats needed something extra special and colorful - Bagheera likes to stand out, so of course she needed an exceptionally cool snow outfit. Christiane was inspired by old home videos from when she was a kid. Skiing trips with her family were usually captured on tape, so it’s a joy to rewatch them now and see all the snow suits from the 80s and 90s.
Shopping our flannel pajama colors
I’m all about the Icicle color because it represents the snow - but we love to be colorful too so we included the Frosted Lake shade. The lightweight flannel material is truly amazing for the season. It’s cozy and soft, but light enough so you don’t feel overwhelmingly warm while sleeping. I'm also a fan of this print because it's not too "holiday" focused, meaning it's great for wearing during the entire winter season. Hit the Slopes is shoppable in matching family pjs so everyone can show off this fun winter wonderland scene. With men’s pj pants, women’s long sets, and even bandanas for the furry friends, this is holiday card magic!
