Behind the Print: Dashing Deer
Let’s delve into the creation of our enchanting "Dashing Deer" print, a successor to the beloved Fox & Folklore design. This print pays tribute to the grace and beauty of deer, a common sight in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, by placing them in a whimsically adorned forest setting, perfect for the holiday season and beyond. Our Print Designer Christiane masterfully blended the charm of vintage deer figurines and the elegance of the White-Tailed Deer, creating a print that is both festive and reminiscent of our previous lush forest designs.

Dashing Deer Behind the Print
What Inspired our Dashing Deer Print
Our wintery Fox & Folklore print from last year was so popular, so we thought deer would be a great motif to add to our collection! Print Designer Christiane did a lovely job of creating a print that infused the holiday spirit, while keeping the lush, forested feeling of some of our previous prints like Antelope’s Forest. It was important to place them in a fanciful forest with lots of pretty decorative trees to give it a look that’s special for the season, but one that can also transition well to any time of the year. For inspiration she found some fun vintage figurines of baby deer, and then incorporated the whole deer family with bucks and does. The deer here were mirrored off the White-Tailed Deer native in the US, but there are many kinds of deer around the world that have a similar resemblance!
In an effort to make it feel unique and magical, the forest landscape was inspired by a mix of different places and styles. You can see a round tree with umbrella-shaped leaves that feels like it could have been pulled from an ancient Udaipur miniature painting, while there are also Weeping Willow and Oak trees native to North America. The creeping ferns and playfully angled plants help ground and layer the space, making it seem as if the forest is slowly opening to reveal the deer to you. We tried so many color combinations for Dashing Deer! At points there was purple, yellow, olive, but ultimately we loved how the black ground sat with the other prints in the Holiday Shop. The Ink with the pops of eye-catching foliage and deer is so striking, the pattern truly pops.

Dashing Deer: Who are These Printfresh Pjs Great for?
I love this print for the holidays, and it’s especially wonderful if you live in a wooded area. This print is cozy, chic and great for wearing as you curl up by the fireplace. Dashing Deer is perfect for anyone who enjoys time in nature, and loves wildlife. Deer symbolize gentleness, wisdom, independence, and creativity which I think are all nice qualities to lean into during the winter months.

The Dashing Deer Robe is so fabulous, it’s one of my must-have pieces from this collection. I especially love layering it over the Back to Bed Nightgown (a fan-favorite style of ours). This pattern is a great gift during the holidays since it transcends the season.
