Meet the Collaboration | Beth Ladd for Printfresh
Beth Ladd & Printfresh
I’ve been a huge fan of Beth’s work for quite some time. I love wearing her earrings since they are such fun conversation pieces and often match up well with the motifs in our prints. Artisans in India also carefully craft her work and we have so many similarities in our approach to business, manufacturing, and fun whimsical pieces. To kick off our collaboration process, we shared our favorite holiday prints with Beth and she had some creative ideas on how we could coordinate with napkin rings. I love how detailed the napkin rings turned out - it’s like jewelry for your table and so incredibly fun. There are so many beautiful options out there when it comes to curating your own tabletop. But since we love patterns so much, we can go over the top with our collections and really stand out! I was so excited to chat with Beth about her own brand and inspiration in this special Q&A below.
Can you talk about how you started Beth Ladd and what the brand means to you?
I started the business in 2014 while working full-time in interior design in New York City. Initially, I curated pieces from other vendors, but I missed the creative process that goes into design—whether it’s interiors, jewelry, or otherwise. In 2018, I began creating my own designs in partnership with an artisan family in India. Our pieces quickly resonated with customers, leading us to fully embrace in-house design. Today, we’re proud to work with six artisan groups across India to bring our designs to life. As we grow, we remain committed to ethical production, supporting our artisans, and preserving traditional craftsmanship.
What inspires your designs and creativity?
I find inspiration everywhere, but travel and nature are my biggest sources. I’m also drawn to vibrant colors, patterns, and textures. As the late Iris Apfel once said, "more is more, and less is a bore” – I couldn’t agree more! When designing our beaded pieces, I focus heavily on materials, often challenging myself to see how many types we can combine in one piece. Some of our bestselling earrings, for example, incorporate six or seven different materials, creating depth and interest. It's no small feat, especially with such tiny details, but our artisans are incredible at making it all come together beautifully.
Can you speak to your design process and the handmade nature of your products?
Each product we create goes through a unique process, but it generally starts with a sketch on paper or iPad. From there, I choose colors and materials using thread and bead charts we have in the office. Once the design is ready, I send it to our manufacturers, who create the first samples, and we make adjustments as needed. Every piece is handmade—even the monograms on our India Bags are stitched by hand. We embrace slow fashion, knowing that it limits production but adds incredible value. To share the intricacy of our process, we occasionally post behind-the-scenes videos on Instagram—be sure to check them out!
Can you talk about the Printfresh styles and how you collaborate to incorporate both brands into the products?
I'm thrilled to collaborate with Printfresh this season! Your talent with prints is incredible—I’m obsessed with each one of your designs. We initially planned a Holiday 2024 collaboration (which we did and I absolutely love!), but as soon as I saw the Champagne & Caviar print, I knew we had to create an accessory to match. We designed champagne and caviar earrings to complement the print, capturing the spirit of both brands.
For the holidays, we used motifs from some of Printfresh’s prints to create hand-beaded napkin rings that pair beautifully with their festive napkins and placemats. Both of our brands share a whimsical, high-quality approach that’s fun and full of character. I’m so happy with how all of our pieces turned out!
