Summer is magical. From the time we were kids, we looked forward to that big break all year—whether it meant heading off to camp, days spent adventuring with friends, or starting our first summer job, there was always something to be excited about.

Even now, a little bit older, that summer enchantment still holds up. Days in the garden, evenings with friends on the patio, and weeks spent at the beach—there’s something about summer that makes time move a little slower and moments feel extra special.

All that excitement and nostalgia also make for especially great journaling sessions. Below, we’ve compiled a few prompts to help you tap into that summer state of mind.

What are some of your favorite things about the summer season?

When you imagine a summer day, what comes to mind? What is the air like, the smells, the sounds? What about a summer evening?

Describe a treasured memory that takes place in the summer…

What was your first summer job?

Did you ever go to summer camp? What was that like?

Do you have a favorite book or movie that takes place in the summer? What was it about and how did summer influence the storyline?

Describe the perfect summer meal…

What musicians and/or artists remind you of summer? Why?

Describe your perfect summer roadtrip. Where would you go? What would you do? With who?

Now it’s time to pick out a journal, make yourself a glass of lemonade, and start writing!
