Behind the Print: Must Love Dogs

Our Unicorn’s Garden print is a fan-favorite, and we really wanted to make an update for this holiday season that celebrated mille-fleur flowers that feel very tapestry-inspired, but with a new critter more front and center than the spaced unicorns. We get SO many requests for dog print pajamas, and this felt like a perfect opportunity to create Must Love Dogs.

Hunting dogs were often depicted in tapestries and manuscripts during the Middle Ages. While our close relationships with our dogs can feel very contemporary, in reality canine companions have actually been a big part of human life for centuries. I love that this print is a more magical, whimsical take on a dog pattern - while still keeping a bit of the goofy spirit that dogs just always seem to evoke. 

Earlier this year we released another all-time favorite print of mine, our Good Dog print, but this new pup pattern is very different. Good Dog was a celebration of antique Staffordshire figurines, and Must Love Dogs is all about our real-life furry friends. These dogs are a bit more realistic, with recognizable Corgis, Greyhounds, Dachshunds, French Bulldogs and Standard Poodles. It was important to us that we include a variety of different breeds in hopes that our community of dog lovers will be able to find their own pups in this print, and I drew a lot of inspiration from the friendly dogs I see when I stop by my neighborhood park.

Personally, I don’t know why we have to choose a team when it comes to perfect pets - I consider myself a cat AND dog person. I grew up with both, and while right now I only have two cats (and a handful of fish), I’d love to adopt a pup in the next year or two. 

There are so many phenomenal animal rescues in the Philadelphia area, we appreciate all the amazing work they do for our canine community! We love PAWS and the dedication they have towards pets in our city. The nonprofit PAWS is dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless and at-risk pets. In fact, they’re the city’s largest rescue partner and provider of affordable, basic veterinary care for pet owners and rescue organizations that cannot otherwise access it. They help find homes for thousands of animals each year and support families across the area with keeping their pets safe and healthy. Morris Animal Refuge is also doing special work. With over 140 years of saving pets in Philadelphia, they’ve been pioneers for the entire country to follow suit!
