Meet the Pencil & Paper Resort Collection

Q: What was the inspiration behind this resort collection?

Amy: The holiday break is such a nice time to get away to somewhere warmer. This collection is a great way to freshen up your wardrobe with some pretty prints. We wanted to have some happy florals in bold colors for this collection.

Gen: You know that we can’t resist an easy to wear, flattering dress silhouette in a happy print! We wanted to create a playful resort collection for those heading someplace warm post-holidays! And as a Florida girl, I know that so many places across the U.S. stay warm year-round and they are always left out of the fun this time of year.

Q: What do you love about these prints? 

Amy: The patterns have a block-print-like look to them but are modern and hand drawn up close. They have a cheerful and easy to wear look to them that will be in style season after season.

Gen: We've never met a print that we didn’t like…and these feel especially fresh and fun, and we just love the print mixing and contrast piping details!

Q: How is the collection different from previous ones?

Amy: Gen and I love a puff sleeve - so we added even more drama to the sleeves of the dresses this time. This collection has smocking at the sleeve so that it’s comfortable and stretchy - but gives you the puffed dramatic look that we were craving. The longer dress style has a different sleeve construction this season - with a set-in-sleeve and extra volume at the top of the shoulder to give a stylish look. The belt has piping around it as we love to add a little bit of piping and contrast wherever we can - which is a signature detail that we tend to use frequently in our designs.

Gen: We wanted to celebrate everyone’s excitement about our first Printfresh dress launch in the last collection, and explore a shorter style this time too. I was so excited about the new button details that allow customers to style these dresses for so many different occasions (and show a little more skin if you wish!). And of course we so appreciate the wonderful size range!

Q: Where do you envision people wearing these dresses?

Amy: Whether you live in a warm area, or are headed to one (to escape the chilly temps in the North) - these dresses are perfect for a fun day out with family and transition easily to dinner with the addition of a great handbag and some earrings. Pair them with a metallic shoe, white sneaker, or any sort of natural woven footwear or espadrilles and you’ve got all you need.

Gen: I love the versatility of these styles and that a single dress can be worn for so many different occasions, from an afternoon lunch date to post-pool and everything in between. Plus these beautiful fabrics are machine washable and so easy to pack!

Q: Do you have any winter resort/vacation plans? If so, what will you be wearing and how do you plan to incorporate these dresses into your plan?

Amy: I was in Nashville for my birthday (and was able to snag our photoshoot samples for the trip!). I also plan to wear the looks on spring break as we travel to the Bahamas (as per Gen’s guide we got inspired to head there).

Gen: We’re headed to Harbour Island right after Christmas and can’t wait to wear this happy new collection inspired by our home away from home! While on holiday I love to pack easy, flattering dresses that pair with our favorite sandals and espadrilles! And I absolutely love the versatility of this collection since the dresses can be worn belted or unbelted, and are equally at home for evening cocktails or an afternoon at the beach!
