This year we joined a boat-share so we are looking forward to spending more time on the water with the kids. They’re into surfing right now, and I’m hoping to get the hang of it to catch waves on my own - so I’m putting it out there and now you all can hold me to it! Speaking of, who else loves Endless Summer? I wish I could get the kids to watch old movies - but I especially adore this one and any movie about surf culture. Give me a retro flick and 70’s soul all the way. Otis Redding Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay feels quintessential to summertime. The beach is the perfect place to listen to books on audio, I’m all about taking in the waves so it’s a great alternative! I’m currently into Find Your Unicorn Space by Eve Rodsky and Make Life Beautiful which I picked up at the library by Syd and Shea McGee. It's a great book about how she got her start and learned to trust herself in design - it’s so inspiring how she built such a successful business through hard work and passion without formal training.Â
One of my favorite pastimes is making a big festive meal for our friends at the beach. My husband (and business partner) Leo makes an amazing shrimp boil and we’ve gotten into creating a huge Tuna Nicoise salad on a humongous tray. It’s so delicious! Vintage-inspired cocktails like Aperol spritzes and Friday night cosmos are always a hit. I love making my cosmo with Mezcal, and that bright pink and lime color? Too cute! Roasting marshmallows with the kids around a campfire is another one of those beloved experiences. Stargazing at night with an incredible telescope (one of Leo’s pandemic purchases) is also incredible. On a clear night, there’s truly nothing better than sitting under the sky.Â
There’s some really amazing retro summer pieces that I’m into right now. Frances Valentine is carrying adorable embroidered caftans and this patio umbrella that is so stinking cute! Any dress by La Double J also gives me that fun summer retro feel. On top of those picks, I’m very excited to travel through Italy this summer. I love the old school glamour of the way people dress in Europe, and I need to work on some dress/scarf/sunglasses outfits to look as chic as the locals do while strolling the streets!
I can’t believe that Father's Day is this month! Shopping can always be tricky for this holiday. Leo is really into unexpected gadgets, and I love buying things I’ve seen on Shark Tank, so perhaps this Bug Bite Thing could be neat! These prank boxes are also hilarious, I might need to get him a gift to put into the bathe & brew box since he loves coffee. I got my dad one of these all-in-one bbq multitools which is perfect for getting all the hard to grab stuff off the grill - might need to follow suit and order Leo one as well!Â
