July’s Art of Relaxation

Making the most out of summer means striking that perfect balance between work and play. There is definitely an art to relaxation but when you get to spend your season spending time with family exploring new and familiar places together, that leisurely state of mind comes a bit easier! As we make our way into July, I couldn’t be more excited to savor the second half of our EU trip (stay tuned next month for my trip recap and highlights!) and plan for all the amazing Jersey Shore excursions we’ll enjoy upon our return.

July’s Art of Relaxation

For the better part of June my husband Leo (and cofounder), the kids and I have been traveling through Europe, immersing ourselves in the food, culture and history. The 4th of July will be unlike any before as we will be in Athens, Greece. I hope to be able to check out Acropolis, I’ve personally been trying to work my way through checking off every UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s safe to say it’s going to take a while but I’ve got to squeeze them in whenever I can.

We’ve been cooking a lot this summer as there are so many great farm stands and seafood markets. They’re perfect for entertaining! When we do dine out there are no shortage of amazing places to frequent. I love The Deauville Inn for live music and sitting out at the beach bar in the sand (the kids have a blast playing on the dock). Summer Salt in Avalon is my favorite farm-to-table restaurant and Exit Zero in Cape May is another fabulous spot known for its quirky outdoor seating. Their Indian Disco fries make my mouth water just thinking about them!

Let’s talk shopping. Between Tommy’s Folly, Given’s Circle, Cash and Clive, Galvanic, and Queen Mary, Cape May is packed with incredible options. In the Stone Harbor and Avalon areas I love the Wayward Gardener, the Preppy Palm, and Closet Boutique. They’re great places to pick up something truly unique. My summer wardrobe is definitely stocked with the essentials from these fantastic stops. I’ve been living in block printed dresses and always like to add to my collection when I’m traveling. I love breezy cotton frocks that are loose fitting because they are easy to wear to the office with my Golden Goose sneakers or Freedom Moses animal print sandals, and versatile enough for going out to dinner.

Since we are traveling a lot this summer, I’m hoping to find some time to do some watercolor painting because it's easy to pack compared to most projects. Embroidery is another passion of mine- so I’m planning to play around with some new ideas for our next collection. With other downtime, I've been watching Life & Beth and reading The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo. Clearly I think Amy Schummer is fantastic! I Love That for You is another show that makes me laugh, especially when I think about when I went through training for QVC, I was so nervous! If you haven’t watched The Thing About Pam, I highly recommend adding it to your list. What a fascinating story and Renee Zegweller was amazing in that role. To round it out, I've been reading Unicorn Space. It’s all about taking creative time for yourself to experience fulfillment. There is really great advice on how to navigate that balance with your family to achieve your creative aspirations.
