The Ultimate Guide for Tall Shopping

As a size inclusive brand, we know that means more than just plus-sized options. Bodies come in many different shapes and sizes, so we’re making every effort to be as inclusive as we can be. To our tall friends - we see you! In addition to now offering tall sizing, we checked in with one of our contributors, Erika Veurink, on some of her favorite brands that are making shopping for longer lengths a breeze.

The Ultimate Guide for Tall Shopping
The Ultimate Guide for Tall Shopping

Written by Erika Veurink

Some brands assume creating a taller version of a piece simply means tacking on a few inches, and calling it a day. A more nuanced approach requires attention to the way the entire fit shifts with extended length. Sleeves have to be taken into consideration, along with the length of the torso, and the obvious addition of inches to the hemline. How “tall” is defined ranges from brand to brand, but it’s safe to assume anyone over 5’10” would benefit from taking a look at brands that offer tall options. Read on for brands prioritizing taller shoppers for fits that feel tailor-made from the start.

1. Of Mercer
Ideal for the woman looking to dress a taller frame for the office, Of Mercer offers timeless workwear in simple hues, also in extended sizes. Think meeting-ready looks and dress pants that are comfortable enough for weekend wear. The ethos of the brand is to create workwear easy enough for every aspect of life, and for every type of body.

2. Midheaven
Founded by actress and former model Kathryn Boyd Brolin in 2017, Midheaven is all about creating luxury denim for women who need a custom fit. Since its founding, the brand has expanded to regular sizing and into loungewear. But the cornerstone of its offering includes trendy cuts of denim and perfectly-fitted, vintage-inspired tees.

3. Madewell
The darling brand known for of-the-moment colorways and classic denim offers a tall range both in-store and online. Madewell’s partnership with Cotton’s Blue Jeans Go Green offers $20 in when you exchange your old jeans, which will become housing insulation for needy communities. Shop here for jumpsuits with longer torsos and dresses in the perfect length. Sizes range from 23 & XXS to 14W-28W & 1X-4X.

4. Land’s End
Known for their iconic Boat and Tote bags, Land’s End isn’t front of mind when it comes to fashion, for most. But their women’s tall line is a great place for no-nonsense layering pieces with added inches. Plus, the line ranges from swimwear to chinos. Sizing is offered in a plethora of categories like Tall Plus and Petite. Expect high quality that lasts.

5. American Tall
Designed for women 5'9" - 6'6", American Tall is in the business of creating truly flattering tall options. Attention to detail, like proper knee placement on jeans with inseams up to 37”, is the brand’s bread and butter. Most pieces are offered in solid neutrals, making the brand a perfect place to shop for well-fitting basics to build an outfit upon. Waist sizes range from 25”-36”.

6. J. Crew
J.Crew has been offering tall sizes for decades, and has recently extended their general sizing. Expect to find all your preppy classics with a sprinkling of on-trend offerings like cashmere tanks and tulle skirts. Tall button ups and outerwear are highlights from the brand. Jeans come in sizes 23–37, plus petite and tall. Bonus, don’t forget to borrow from the men’s tall section for even more length.

7. Gap
Tried and true, Gap is home to all things Americana, and has been since 1969. If you’re in the market for absolute basics, there’s no better spot to shop. Most tall offerings are available online-only. We love Gap for a striped shirt with sleeves that reach your wrists or workout leggings that touch your ankles. Made for women over 5’10”, the line offers everything from minidresses to wide leg pants. Sizes range from 0 to 20.

8. Long Tall Sally
Inspired by The Beatles song with the same name, this brand has been manufacturing clothing specifically for tall women since 1976. Hips, hems, and pockets are all appropriately lengthened for a proper fit. Plus, sizes range from 8 to 32, with inseams up to 38 inches. Building a wardrobe built for your body has never been easier, with offerings ranging from outerwear to activewear.

9. Vintage
If you’re keen for discovery, and down for a treasure hunt, try opting for vintage. Not only is it a more environmentally-conscious option, but oftentimes, vintage silhouettes, especially in the men’s category, boast great lengths. Think oversized men’s blazer with long arms, sailor’s pants from the 60s that hit the floor, or even a drapey gown with a delightfully unexpected floor length silhouette.
