Q: Our new shower curtains really elevate any space into a self-care haven, what are some of your go-to self-care musts?
A: I’m pretty low key, but there are a few things I can’t live without. I have really sensitive skin so using sunblock during the day or a foundation with sun protection is key for me to avoid irritating my skin from the sun. I always cleanse my face with a gentle cleanser like Tata Harper’s Superkind Softening Cleanser or one from Kama, my favorite Ayervedic skin care brand in India. For hydration, I adore the Harmonize Microbiome Boosting Moisturizer by Cosmedix. I also love to get facials from Nirvana Spa, complete with microdermabrasion and LED light therapy. I’m always in a rush, so I like to go on a routine basis to keep my skin refreshed and exfoliated - plus it’s SO relaxing I always end up dozing off.Â
Amy’s Summer Beauty Routine
There’s no time like summertime to spotlight one’s beauty routine. We’re chatting with Printfresh Founder and Creative Director Amy Voloshin on her tips and tricks for staying focused on her self-care during these warmer months.Â
Q: How does your everyday beauty and hair routine change up in the summer?Â
A: It’s very humid by the beach where we spend our summer so my hair gets extra frizzy. I’ve been using Living Proof’s No Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner which works very well. I’ve also been trying to find some easy styles to pull it back to keep cool and keep my hair out of my face when boating, beach walking or playing pickleball. Braiding the sides in loose braids and putting it into a ponytail keeps all the flyaways tamed and adds a little bit of interest. I also find blowing my hair out with my handy styler dryer (that looks very archaic) but is great for those of us that aren’t great with a round brush (those always scare me, I used to always get them stuck in my long hair when I was younger).
Q: Any new summer products you are trying for the first time?
A: Nope! I stick to what works for me - but the one thing I’m thinking about stocking up on for the kids is Supergoop Sunblock. This year I’m trying to be better about using natural ingredients and clean-chemical based sunblocks that are high quality.
Q: Any go-to summer products that you’ve loved for years?Â
A: Badger Anti-Bug Repellent smells amazing and is safe for the kids
Q: Any warm weather beauty/hair tips?Â
A: A twisted cool bandana makes for a fun wrap to keep hair out of your face, I’m also so glad that claw clips are back! I have an animal print one (similar to this) that I love. While working on my braiding game, it totally pulls together an updo in only a few minutes.
Q: What’s some ways you may elevate your routine in the summer for special occasions?Â
A: Since the heat and humidity can be challenging I think putting effort into a pedicure and cute sandals (I always love metallic ones with beautiful jewelry) can allow for minimal makeup and hair styling all while still looking elevated at the same time.Â
Q: Where do you shop for beauty?
A: Beauty shopping in the city has always been a little overwhelming, so I’ve been doing a lot online. I love Nordstrom since they have an amazing policy on taking things back if they don’t match or meet your expectations (although I’ve never taken them up on it - it’s nice to feel like I could if I ordered something that was a bad fit for me). Ulta also has an amazing range and I love going to the one down by us at the shore as it’s fun to browse and see all the fun products. And, I love duty free, I end up stocking up on things that I know I already love.
